This is the biggest division of the EFL and the second highest division after the EPL of the football league system in England. There were 24 teams participating in the competition from August to May. The clubs will compete against each other to win the championship cup. The champions, runners-up, and EFL play-off winners will be promoted to the English Premier League and the bottom three clubs will be relegated to League One. The 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship season kicks off on Friday August 4, with a blockbuster match between Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton at Hillsborough. Sheffield Wednesday are the League One play-off champions, while Southampton are the relegated side from the Premier League.
The regular Championship season wraps up on Saturday May 4, with all the games starting at the same time at 3pm. The play-off semi-finals will take place after that, but the dates will be confirmed later. The play-off final will be held at Wembley Stadium on Monday May 27, with the winner earning a spot in the Premier League.
